There’s been much controversy recently over the hit by Michael Liambas of the Erie Otters that sent Ben Fanelli to a hospital room in critical condition.  Liambas was essentially suspended from hockey, as he was slapped with a year’s suspension, this his last year of junior.

“No one’s ever out there to intentionally hurt anyone.  I know we’re on different teams, but we all have the same dreams and the same goals and I don’t think anyone is trying to take that away from anyone.” ,said Liambas.

I see little wrong with the hit. Liambas came quickly unimpeded as the defenceman turned his back.  The skater never left his feet and lead with his shoulder.  Unfortunately, Fanelli’s head hit squarely on the glass partition and he falls awkwardly.  If you feel punishment is warranted considering the severity of the injury, fine, but a year is too harsh. 1. Ouch.  Without looking at it whether it was right or wrong, that was a crusher.

  2. I don’t know about that one…tough call…he should definitely get suspended…fanelli turns his back, and liambas doesn’t let up one bit….I hope Fanelli can play hockey again..
